Briefing
One of the tasks you will find useful for schoolwork is to be able to upload and download documents from the "cloud". In this Quest you will create an external document, learn to upload it to Google Drive, download the file from the Drive, and finally, to learn how to print it directly from the Google "Cloud" (another name for Google's server). Drive on! |
Steps:
Steps:
1. To create a new document on your own computer or device to upload:
a. Open a new (blank) word document. Save it to your computers folder filespace with the following name: T6Q2activityXX and replace the XX with your name or initials.
b. Click this link to view a variety of copyright-free fables on our Fablespage. Select one and copy it (did you use a shortcut such as CtrlC, or right-click copy? Great!).
c. Return to your word-processing document and paste the fable into it (Ctrl V, or right-click paste).
2. Add a citation for the fable at the bottom of your document.
In the 'thing' Be Legal and Fair, you will learn to use some great citation making programs.
For this activity you can copy the citation at the bottom of our Fables pageand change the title to the one you are using for this activity.
-Note: Most of the work on the Internet is copyrighted, as are many of the images when you do a Google search for them. It is important to understand copyright rules and learn to cite the source and give proper credit to the author(s).
3. Save your document again.
4. Now it's time to upload your document to Google Drive. This step is similar to how you would upload any file to the "cloud" (Google's server) so you can access it anywhere that there is an Internet connection.
a. To upload a file to Google Drive, locate the folder you want to upload it to (the one you created in Q1) and click on the folder to open it.
b. Click on the red upload arrow button next to CREATE, and click on Files.
c. Locate your Q2 Fable file and click on Open (or double-click the filename). d. You will see the message that the Upload is complete.
You should see it appear in the folder in Google Drive.
3. Downloading a document from Google DriveThis process is how you would download a file from the "cloud" (Google's server) so you can save it to use at home or school when you do not have access to the Internet. A good place to save it may be on a flash drive so it is still portable, or save to your Filespace. There are two different ways to download your document described below:
Download a file Method 1
a. Locate your file. To download a file, locate it in your Google Drive. It may be in a folder like you created in Q1.
b. Click on check box next to the filename.
c. Click on the dropdown arrow next to More.
d. Select DOWNLOAD and save it to your filespace, desktop, or location as directed by your teacher.
Download a file Method 2
a. Locate your file and click on it to open it.
b. On the menu above the file you will see an arrow to download it. Click on it and select a location to save your file.
